Land and sea and foam

Despite or maybe because of the rain I really felt like a run after work today. The foot feels ok after a day on my feet (I often walk a few miles during the day and am pretty much on my feet all day) just a bit achey and I was beginning to wonder if I was being a little over-protective of it.

So surely a quick jaunt to the beach was in order! The good news was that it stood up to it well, admittedly on the way back there was a slight dull ache but I guess thats to be expected, what I wasn’t suffering was the OMG someones hacked my foot off at the ankle pain I was experiencing before – This therefore is progress.

I took it really slowly, for example a 12 minute mile to start instead of the 9 or 10 I used to do. I also took the time to warmup and briskly walked the first quarter mile on the road to get the body going. I managed to keep the pace low – It felt really weird and I couldn’t tell whether my hamstrings were hurting from resisting the urge to go at my normal pace or if they just aren’t used to running again. I’m also reading about chi running at the moment and have started to incorporate a little of it into my form – No-one can ever accuse me of not being open-minded (He said, cherishing his mish-mash of the ideas which he likes best) more of that in later posts after a bit more research though.

Oh yeah and the title of the post ….

Its a not so clever use of an old drinking song I’m sure you all know.

Foam

I’m just hoping the foam isn’t linked to pollution. Will do some investigating into it though.

  1. Super happy to see you back in action as well! Keep it slow šŸ˜€ this gives me a chance to catch up lol.

The foam reminds me of an ecoli warning I saw on my beach. I chatted up someone and they explained it is not affecting our area, but another district …

Don’t remember when I saw foam like that though … not sure if ever. Wouldn’t do ice baths in there though!

    1. Chatted up someone!? Yeah been looking it up and it could be caused by pollution causing algae growth. It didnt look that healthy tbh but there were a few surfers about and they hadn’t mutated or anything

  2. @Gareth ha ha ha haaa… i also thought ‘ey girl, CHATTED UP someone??? hope he was HOT!!!!”

I don’t think the foam is anything to worry about, in Cape Town we use it get so much of it that it covered benches and cars parked near by, i thinks its a combination of the pounding waves and the onshore wind… i speak under correction…

    kewl pics!

How are the ‘bananas’ treating you? OMG i just splashed out on a pair of Hoka’s…. i bought online only cos the sop didn’t have my size, but luckily they had the other colour, so at least i know i have the sizing right and MY COLOUR is super funky… You’ll have the ‘bananas’ and i will have the ‘mojitos’… i do have ‘raspberries’…

    1. Could well be just natural foam but we’ve had no strong winds lately but may just be the tide. The bananas are fantastic and with every run look a little less bananalike lol they really are comfortable though and no pain in work today. It might just be coincidence but I reckon they help. Oooooh new hokas! Ill rush off to your blog for a report and hopefully pics!

  3. Funny how we love running in the rain after the heat!! I’m glad to hear that you are going to be researching and writing about chi running. I’d love to know more but I can’t be arsed so I’m looking forwards to being spoonfed the highlights!

    1. Yeah it looks good on paper but I think will take some adjusting to because every time I try to alter my form it snaps back to normal as soon as I stop concentrating on it

      2. Do you think that there is something wrong with your form? I keep meaning to ask my son to video me so that I can see mine. I dare say it won’t be pleasant viewing!

      3. Hell yeah! I have zero form I’m petrified of seeing myself run… I just wing it or I overthink shit! I may never run again if I catch a glimpse of myself šŸ˜‚… I’d rather live oblivious!!!!
