Finds!

Well im finding that a days rest everynow and again helps.  Well I knew that anyway but for once I actually listened to my body when on wednesday night my legs were just saying no just don’t do it tomorrow. Then on thursday morning I thought “hey they’re ok I could run” and common sense kicked in people! I actually thought about it and gave it a day off.  I looked at my stats which I rarely seem to do these days and realised I had run a 50 mile week with 30 miles in the last 3 days which is is maybe overdoing it, truth is im enjoying being out with murph so much I dont really notcie the miles.  If you add on the miles we walk too its no wonder the legs protest.

So a few runs since and today i made a find. A find find.

Surfboard with leash and fins intact just washing in overnight.  Not sure what I’m gonna do with it as I dont surf (though i could learn) but a find is a find – So I ran back 3 miles with it

Rockfall

Lifes good

Murph and I ran another 6 miles yesterday – He loves it, puts me to shame, when im flagging and he gambols off into the distance its a good feeling though as I know he’s not even really putting any effort into it and clearly enjoys the whole thing. Today we just walked 4 as the ankle still plays up a bit. Its good to be able to do either as I feel. So yeah … lifes good!

New rockfall – right where I warned the “geologist” to get from under the cliffs a few months ago. Would take a bit of digging to get him out from under there

Chilling in the fields

My thats a biggun!

To what am I referring?  Who has the dirtiest mind out there (Dont answer I think I know!)

This of course!

Fresh giant cliff collapse!

Wish I’d been around when it happened – must have been spectacular!  The stack on the left is still standing too!  So I had to investigate

Wonder how many tonnes it is?

I had a scramble over it nosing for fossils but found nowt.  Bit wary of what might still be to come so kept within arrrghhhggh shit run distance

I did another 7 miles and everything is feeling pretty great at the moment, less pain and stiffness from foot afterwards too.

Apart from the rockfall it was pretty spectacular as usual!

Boxing Day heart attacks

So for xmas I got a Suunto Ambit – cheers mum & dad! My Garmin was fine but the battery doesnt last more than 4 hours and this year I’m going to be out past that at least a few times. It also came with a heart rate monitor which of course I had to try out. I’ve never used one before but didnt notice it was there so I may use it again as the data is interesting. At this point all the heart rate based runners here might want to look away!

So I’m no data expert but I have a feeling I’m not meant to be spending the vast majority of the run in the hard and very hard categories and lets not talk about the 8 minutes running at max. I’m kinda sceptical as surely these are arbitrary categories and the watch has no clue what’s hard for me :p  I also noticed that where I’m working really hard has less to do with pace but rather the terrain so my HR climbs when I’m on the rocks.

I think it will all make more sense once I’ve got a wider base of data to terrify myself with. I’ll give the watch a review once I’ve used it for a while too.

As for the run it was a beautiful boxing day on the beach.

Old runs, new faces

Misty, rainy morning run to the beach as much to just stretch the legs as anything else as I knew the tide was on its way in.  Had a good play around the immediate area though, some hill repeats during which I found this new face

Then a hop down to the beach to get some swifter rock running in to satisfy the need to bounce around a bit.

Then off looking for a christmas tree – at the beach ofc.  It now seems to be a tradition (if a 2 year thing can be a tradition) to find my tree at the beach. I wasn’t blogging last christmas so I don’t think last years tree made it here, I’ll have to see if I can find a photo.

But here is this years effort!

I am officially the worlds worst tree decorator (to be fair thats all I have to decorate it with) but considering I ran nearly 3 miles with the very heavy and unweidly thing I ofc love it

2 miles of ass haulin’ and 5 of haulin’ ass

I think that sums up my runs at the moment. Always around 2 miles befor it feels good and I want to do more and more! Hop skip jump around the beach.

Past the rockfall – No real change yet – Perhaps this tide thing takes longer than i thought. Im so impatient

Oh yeah and I took a look at runkeeper which I rarely do these days and sometime last week I passed my 1000th running mile!  In fcat I’m on 1020 now :p  Damn I really am no good at stats

Racing the unraceable

Finished work and flew to the beach, it was going to be a close run thing but I knew the sun was going to disappear in a matter of minutes. Skates on!

Gone

So I raced the sun. Next up why not the tide which was coming in but had left me a small window of opportunity.

DSC02372.JPG
A stretch of sand is all I need.

Flew down the sand and back up before the tide hit the pebbles. Raced the tide.

Also of note was this fresh rockfall

DSC02365.JPG
Judging by the fresh dirt it went last night or this morning.

Oddly enough I had taken a photo of this section last month as I noticed that the “pavement” under the cliff was strangely clear for once – I also ran along it ….

So it will be interesting to see how the sea removed the new fall and I intend to photograph it through time.

Amazing the things you can do and find in a quick 4 mile run!

Misty morning at Traeth Mawr

Quick post for what was suppiosed to be a quick run. Just under 7 miles but the beach was kinda fun this morning so I ran and explored so a slow time but who cares!  Felt good again today so all in all it’s been a good weekend, hasn’t felt like a strain at all and just the boost I needed after what was a quiet week running wise.

Wore a pair of Adidas Vigor trainers for the first time. Felt great and plenty of bounce and traction on rocks. Not so great in the slippery mud but I didn’t expect them to be. I’ve realised that for next winter I’m going to need inov8 mudtalons or something seriously luggy.

Spent a good 10 minutes just watching rocks tumble down a recent slide

Witness an incredibly tedious video of the odd rock falling! Joking aside it was a reminder to me that although I treat the beach as a fantastic training and recreational area it’s also a very dangerous playground.
